I'm a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (CA lic. #86212) with fifteen years of clinical experience. I earned my graduate degree with honors from John F. Kennedy University and hold a B.S. in Communications with a minor in Psychology from California State University, Chico. I am continually energized by my field and the work I do, keeping current with the latest evidenced-based treatments.

Experience

I've been fortunate to be guided by many talented and seasoned supervisors and mentors over the course of my psychotherapy training. I've been influenced by the pioneering work of Bessel Van Der Kolk on the extensive impact of trauma on development. I completed my first international training led by Dr. Van Der Kolk in San Francisco, CA in March 2011. All of my work is trauma informed and approached with my client's safety as the utmost importance.

I am certified in the treatment of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders from Postpartum Support International. As a working mother, I appreciate the extraordinary challenges and joys of modern parenting. I'm passionate about helping new parents make healthy adjustments to parenthood and moms heal from traumatic fertility journeys, pregnancies, births and losses. I strive to create safe spaces for women to voice their real thoughts and experiences of motherhood and receive nurturing and compassion without the judgment of mothering that exists in our culture.

Before beginning my work as a psychotherapist, I had careers as an editor and writer in the print news media and as a business analyst in the corporate world. As a former journalist, I never tire in hearing people's stories. Listening to the nuances of a person's experience and assisting others in deepening their personal awareness and self-compassion is my true calling.

Through my own work overcoming personal traumas and loss, I have deep empathy and understanding for the courage it takes to move beyond difficult life circumstances. My family, spirituality, self-care, meditation and mindfulness practices help me stay grounded as I care for my patients.

I'm a member of The California Association for Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT), The East Bay Chapter of CAMFT and Postpartum Support International. I also have led eating disorder recovery groups at Cielo House and currently run a Narcissistic Abuse Support Group in my private practice.

“Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded. It’s a relationship between equals. Only when we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of others. Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity.”
